Poverty and hunger affect people all over the world, but these problems are particularly widespread and entrenched in the Philippines. Poor living conditions, coupled with constant environmental challenges such as typhoons and volcanic eruptions, make getting out of generational poverty especially difficult in this island nation.

At APO Global Foundation, fighting hunger and poverty in the Philippines is the life’s work of our humanitarian mission. Through education, disaster relief, health care services, youth mentorship, livelihood training, and other proven approaches, we lift youth and underserved families out of the never-ending cycles of hardship and despair. Livelihood Program

One of our advocacies and an ongoing program is to provide sustainable livelihood to Indigenous people in the remote areas of the mountain of the Sierra Madre like the Dumagats and Igorots.  Our program calls for vetting qualified recipient and then provide them with egg-laying chicken, chicken cages, enough feeds for 3 months, and technical know-how. We regularly visit  and monitor these recipients to make sure that they remain productive.

Our very first recipient is the family of Lovely Simbulan. Her husband died in an accident leaving her to care for her 6 young children ages 1 to 8 years old. Her only means of livelihood to feed her family is by gathering wood up in the mountain and bringing them down to sell in the market. None of her children go to school because of hardship.  She and her family became the first recipient of our livelihood program. During our last visit, she was already producing enough eggs to sustain her family and she was able to send her young children to school.

We are constantly on the look out for  families Mrs. Simbulan. You too can help with a small donation so we can continue this life-altering mission.

Feeding The Poor Program

Poverty is prevalent practically in all sectors of the Philippines.  A lot of people are out of a job and in need of food to feed their families because of the pandemic and scarcity of job opportunities.  We help in a small way in alleviating their suffering by distributing food and clothing to indigent areas under our Adopt A Barangay Program. You can help and do your part by donating a small amount or by sponsoring a sack of rice.

Health Missions

TSINELAS PROGRAM FOR THE POOR CHILDREN OF THE STREET

This program focus on one of the most prevalent problems among Filipino children of elementary school age.  The Department of Health in the Philippines conducts almost every year, “Oplan Goodbye Bullate” (Deworming Program) in public elementary school to combat and prevent the negative effects of parasitic infestations like roundworm, whipworm, hookworm, and tapeworm which is soil-transmitted (STH)

These infestations cause stunted growth, poor intellectual development, anemia, and impaired cognitive function, especially among children. In Metro Manila alone, there are over 1.6 Million children on the street. They can easily be infected by touching infected soil while playing with their bare hands and bare feet. This infestation can easily be preventable by just providing feet protection. This is one of our ongoing programs to help and provide slippers (Tsinelas) to young kids in poor areas in the Philippines. We go out to the poor areas where children play barefoot and provide them not only the slippers but also teach them the importance of health and sanitation especially playing barefoot.  We also have food distribution as part of the program.  Your small donation can help to provide the protection needed to combat this dreaded infestation among youth.

Special Children Assistance

Caring for children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, autism, or epilepsy is a difficult task for parents. It’s even harder when job opportunities are non-existent and the family is barely keeping their heads above water. Any help you can provide goes a long way toward easing their afflictions and giving their parents some much-needed relief. APO Global Foundation has partnered with Gabay Group, a non-government organization, to provide and distribute milk, canned goods, diapers, rice, vitamins, medications, and financial assistance to these families in their time of need.

Medical & Dental Mission

Many families in poor areas of the Philippines have never undergone medical or dental check-ups, or haven’t seen a doctor or dentist in years. APO Global Foundation partners with National Alumni Associations and members in the medical profession from our local chapters to bring much-needed medical services to these impoverished areas.

Two of our most popular programs are our Dental and Operation TULE (circumcision) programs. Aside from medical check-ups, we also provide food, clothing, medications, and vitamins to those who may not otherwise be able to afford them.
